Biography

Marie C. Baca (formerly Marie Cannizzaro) is a writer and editor whose work is primarily focused on technology, business, and medicine.

In 2006, Marie received her BA in human biology with a concentration in biotechnology and bioethics from Stanford University. She completed a tutorial at Oxford University on the philosophy of bioethics, and will receive her graduate degree in journalism from Stanford in 2010.   

Marie began her journalism career at Dow Jones VentureWire, where she covered the biotech beat and wrote a well-received feature on the migraine therapy market.  She then completed an internship at Stanford Magazine, an award-winning magazine published by the Stanford Alumni Association.  In 2007, Marie interned at Time Inc.'s Business 2.0, penning the biotech/pharmaceutical blog "Biotechnically" and writing about innovations in biomedical technology.        

Later that year, Marie joined the staff of the online women's magazine SassyBean.com as executive editor.  In addition to guiding the overall strategy for the publication, she managed a team of freelance writers and created a social network outreach program that saw a 200 percent increase in unique visitors.    

Currently a freelancer, Marie writes regularly for BNET, The San Mateo Daily Journal, and Bay Area Parent Magazine, among other publications.  She lives in Silicon Valley with her husband.
